"Ayurveda is the art of daily living in harmony with the laws of nature. It is an ancient natural wisdom of health and healing, a science of life and longevity." from Hazel Branagan's blog " My Second Spring".
In my limited understanding of ayurveda, everyone has a different constitution (or dosha) that influences their physical and mental being. If we eat, drink, rest and play in harmony with our particular dosha, then we can achieve optimum health.
I am a Vata, like the wind, flighty, skinny, dry skinned, light eater, quick and always on the go. The other two doshas are Pitta (fire) quick of temper, and Kapha (water) slow and fluid, lethargic. You can of course, be a mixture comprising of different doshas. We humans are never straightforward.
Vata type menopausal symptoms include depression, anxiety and insomnia. ( that's why I'm writing this blog at this time of the night).
Pitta type menopausal symptoms include hot flushes, anger and night sweats.
Kapha type menopausal symptoms include weight gain, listlessness, mental heaviness.
By consuming the correct food, drink, herbal supplements, physical exercise and rest, we can bring our body into harmony. I am currently trying to follow this approach.
Pukka herbs is an excellent website for more information. You can find them at www.pukkaherbs.co.uk They have a range of products that can help with menopausal symptoms such as Black Cohosh.
